8 and 10 Day Itineraries

There are two sub-species of Mid-Asian Ibex available to hunt in Tajikistan.

The Bukharran Ibex boasts greater potential horn length, and is reachable after just a six hour drive from the airport. Another three-hour hike is usually enough to reach the herds.

The Pamir Ibex offer more numerous herds but more significant travel time and more hiking are required. Expect a full day of travel by Land Cruiser to reach the hunting zone. I recommend a 10-day itinerary minimum for hunting in the Pamir Mountains. Add-on wolf tags are always available.

An 8 to 10 day itinerary is recommended for pursuing Bukharran Ibex, but more days can be added easily and add-on hunt options of wild boar are available.

Adventure level: Extreme

Season: October through February.

Hiking: Strenuous.

Weather Conditions: Moderate to Cold, depending on time of year.

Lodge Conditions: A range of lodge options are available, from a comfortable 8-room lodge, to a high-altitude village hut, to remote tent camping.

Stalk difficulty: Ibex are extremely alert and wary creatures. Be prepared for an expert-level, demanding stalk. Pamir Ibex involve more difficult stalking conditions due to the open terrain. Bukharran Ibex are a slightly easier stalk given the landscape and cover available.

Bow-hunt Option: Yes. Not for the feint of heart.
