Who are The Pamiris?

The Pamiri people are a group of isolated tribes who call the far-eastern borders of Afghanistan home. They’re some of the most welcoming and warm people you’ll meet anywhere, as hospitality is one of their top priorities.

Their region is all but cut off from the world by geographical and political barricades. Many families in the Afghan Pamirs are living at starvation levels. Poverty and lack of access to good medical and education resources are constant problems.

Their languages are also unwritten, meaning they have no developed alphabet and literacy system.

There is a big desire among the Pamiris to improve their people’s lives while preserving their language and identity. Timber and his family have spent years living among the Pamiri people and studying their languages. They’re working with a few local scholars to develop alphabets, literacy and reading materials for several Pamiri dialects.
